Growth in the mature IPTV market has slowed

As of the end of June 2013, there were 87.2 million IPTV users worldwide. In the 12 months since the second quarter of 2012, the IPTV subscriber market grew 24%, or a net gain of 17 million.

According to Point Tpic’s research, mature IPTV markets in North America, Western Europe and Asia all grew more slowly in the second quarter of 2013 than in the first quarter, while smaller IPTV markets in eastern Europe, Latin America, Central America and Oceania grew faster.

Nearly half of the world’s IPTV subscription are in Asia, with more than two-thirds in China. Still, user growth in east Asia declined during the quarter, and Japan posted a loss after Yahoo Japan shut down its IPTV service in March 2013. Spain and Italy also lost IPTV subscribers in the second quarter of 2013.

Mature IPTV markets in North America, Western Europe and Asia all grew less in the second quarter of 2013 than in the first quarter, while smaller IPTV markets in eastern Europe, Latin America, Central America and Oceania grew faster.
